Queensland Governer's Visit

• Her Excellency the Governor of Queensland, Ms Penelope Wensley, AO, will visit the Torres Shire between 15 & 20 May; she wishes to meet as many residents as possible.
  Watch out for promotional media releases next week.

Local Government Week 2009

• 1 - 7 June, Theme "Switched on Councils, Powering Queensland communities into sustainability"; full program details will be circulated during May.

Victoria Parade Beautification Project

• This exciting QI50 funded project will commence soon. Please peruse the concept plans on the TSC website or hard copy at Council Office.

Horn Island Airport Projection Extension

• Support Council in its ongoing campaign to obtain funding for this urgent project; write to the Prime Minister, Premier, Federal & State Ministers and our local MPs.

Loud Shirt Day

• This day is on 15th May. Let's make it a special Floral Friday for all residents, schools, departments and businesses to celebrate this day.

Library

• Great new books plus Torres Strait history; internet service available; open Monday / Friday 9am to 4pm; Saturday 9.30am to 12.30pm.
  Full range of TSC tourism glasses and mugs are for sale; don't miss out.

Sport Complexes

• TI - Excellent new program of activities is offered; phone 4069 1192.
  HI - Fridays & Saturdays 6 - 9pm; complex available for competitions and functions hire.

Animal Control

• Heavy financial penalties apply if your dog is found wandering; keep under control at all times and prevent further serious incidents that have occurred recently.

Environment

• Take your own bags to collect your groceries and fruit and vegetables. TSC logo bags will soon be available for purchase at the Council Office.

Youth Council

• Next meeting on Friday 22 May; contact William McKeown on ph 0428 691 333.

Council Meeting

• Next meeting to be held on Tuesday 19 May; your attendance is always welcome. All correspondence and deputation requests to be submitted by 8 May.
