Located along the esplanade, the grounds overlook the beautiful Torres Strait and neighbouring islands. The oval is a vibrant community hub for all codes of footy, as well as a venue for community gatherings, cultural celebrations and inter-island events that bring people together from across the Torres Strait.
The grounds are available for hire for private functions and events.
The oval was named in memory of Mr. Ken Brown, a former Administrator for Thursday Island in the 1960's who made a notable contribution to the establishment of Thursday Island as a separate Shire. Mr. Brown
The fence surrounding the ground and locker room facilities were upgraded in 2025
Torres Shire Council would like to share the new plans for the extension and upgrade of the Ken Brown Oval Sporting Precinct, on Thursday Island. Plans may be viewed through the link below or at the Council Office, 68 Douglas Street, Thursday Island. All community members are welcome to sight these preliminary designs.
