Waste Management
The Torres Shire Council provides a weekly garbage collection service using 240L Wheelie Bins for both residential (Green Lid) and commercial properties (Red Lid). Monday, Tuesday and Thursday are collection days for residential properties while Wednesday and Friday are for businesses and some parts of Port Kennedy.
(Please note that garbage collection for Victoria Pde & Blackall St may vary over Monday, Tuesday and Thursday depending on lower Victoria or upper Victoria)
Councils wishes to advise the Thursday Island Community of the new waste collection time effective from Monday 6, July 2015. All waste collection will commence at 6 am daily on each scheduled route. Businesses & Residents are required to ensure that all bins for collection are placed on the kerb the night before.
The garbage compactor will not return to collect bins that are not presented for collection
The Torres Shire Council Waste Transfer Station is operated daily, waste collected is barged over to the Horn Island Landfill Site.
Torres Shire Council also has vouchers available for purchase at the Main Office on Douglas Street Thursday Island. These vouchers can be used to dump excess commercial waste, green waste and building waste via ute, car boot, trailer, truck etc.

Saturday to Sunday - 9.00 am to 12.00 noon
